Owned and operated by Bob and Kate Boyce, Lil’ Ponderosa is committed to giving their cattle only the best nutrient-rich food, and never introducing growth hormones, fertilizers, pesticides, GMOs, or antibiotics. It's all natural. And not what grocery-store beef means when it claims something is "all-natural." This is actually all-natural.

Uncle Bob with his herd

The farm’s purebred Black Angus cows are given ample grazing land, and the unique blend of orchard grass, perennial rye, and legumes they munch on keeps them hearty and results in beautifully marbled beef.

What makes Lil' Ponderosa beef special?

Lil’ Ponderosa is unique in its commitment to management-intensive grazing, a practice that requires Bob (or Uncle Bob as he’s known to friends and family) to move the herd everyday to a new pasture. Not only does this give the cows fresh grass to graze on but it also allows the previous day’s pasture to begin regenerating. The cows fatten up nicely in a fertilizer and pesticide-free environment.

Lil Ponderosa Grazing Cattle

Uncle Bob cares deeply about preserving the natural health of his land, and takes particular interest in planting the right mix of grasses to release fertilizing nitrogen into the soil. He holds a number of state and national awards for his land and environmental stewardship practices. His farm in Carlisle, PA has become a wildlife habitat where deer, rabbits and wild turkey run free. What better, more peaceful place could there be to raise stress-free cattle that yield delicious, tender beef?

How does buying beef through Crowd Cow work?

First off, you won't be charged anything unless we raise enough money and the cow "tips." At that point, your credit card will be charged and we'll handle the rest.

The meat is dry-aged for approximately 14 days to enhance tenderness and flavor, then processed into steaks, roasts and ground beef.

Next, your cuts are individually packaged in single-serving sizes and flash frozen. In fact, our steaks are vacuum-sealed in sous vide-ready pouches.

Finally, we deliver to your door for a flat fee, no matter how many shares you buy.

How much space in my freezer?

You won't need to buy a new freezer to purchase through Crowd Cow.

You can order as little or as much as you want, but a typical order is 6 to 9 pounds of beef -- enough for a large dinner party. A typical family of four will go through this in about a month.
