Located in Beaverdam, Virginia, Dragonfly Farms is owned and operated by Bruce and Katherine Johnson. The farm’s rural pasturelands make it ideal for raising their 100% grass-fed, grass-finished herd in a truly calm, peaceful environment. Dragonfly features the first Angus-Belted Galloway herd that Crowd Cow has ever offered. This is a unique crossbreed that offers the great marbling and taste you’d expect from Angus beef, but enhanced by the superior grass-finishing genetics of Belted Galloways.

Dragonfly Farms

Over the past ten years, Dragonfly Farms has grown from a 4-cow operation to raising over 130 cows. Bruce brings the same attention to raising fertile pasturelands that has made him a success in the plant nursery and landscaping trades. By carefully managing the mix of grasses and perennial vegetation, he ensures that Dragonfly’s cows are always eating fresh, nutritious food.

Dragonfly Farms

Every piece of Dragonfly Farm's pastureland rests for six months between grazing cycles to replenish the land. This keeps the soil fresh and nutrient rich, and means the cows have year-round grass to graze on, making the beef beautifully marbled and tender. They never use pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones, GMOs, or added antibiotics -- it's just naturally delicious, grass-fed beef.

How does buying beef through Crowd Cow work?

First off, you won't be charged anything unless we raise enough money and the cow "tips." At that point, your credit card will be charged and we'll handle the rest.

The meat is dry-aged for approximately 14 days to enhance tenderness and flavor, then processed into steaks, roasts and ground beef.

Next, your cuts are individually packaged in single-serving sizes and flash frozen. In fact, our steaks are vacuum-sealed in sous vide-ready pouches.

Finally, we deliver to your door for a flat fee, no matter how many shares you buy.

How much space in my freezer?

You won't need to buy a new freezer to purchase through Crowd Cow.

Buying Direct

You can order as little or as much as you want, but a typical order is 6 to 9 pounds of beef -- enough for a large dinner party. A typical family of four will go through this in about a month.

Our standard steak share is a little bigger than a gallon of milk. Even your freezer -- packed with frozen pizzas and forgotten leftovers -- can squeeze that in.

A typical refrigerator's freezer compartment has a total capacity that could pack between 100 to 150 lbs of meat.
