How It Began

Bonafide Provisions was founded by Sharon Brown, a mom and clinical nutritionist who first discovered the health benefits of bone broth when she used it to help heal her son's chronic sinus and respiratory infections. The collagen and amino acids in traditionally-made bone broth strengthen the integrity of the gut lining, which is home to over 70% of the immune system, as well as provide the building blocks for healthy bones, joints, hair, skin and nails. Bone broth is one of the most natural, bioavailable source of these nutrients and as a result, it became the cornerstone of Sharon's nutrition protocol. Sharon wanted to make these benefits widely available and, so, working with her husband, Reb, a professionally-trained chef, they developed each recipe and perfected the cooking method to create Bonafide Provisions.

The Process

After simmering grass-fed, pasture-raised bones for 18-48 hours and adding organic herbs and veggies for flavor, the cartilage in the bones breaks down and leaves with you a savory, gelatinous stock that’s incredibly rich in nutrients, including glucosamine, chondroitin, amino acids and collagen (the reason why it’s so thick!). Bonafide Provisions uses minimal and purposeful ingredients — only those that can be found in your own kitchen — to extract these nutrients from the bones. The broth is then frozen, a process that Sharon refers to as “Mother Nature’s preservative”, to lock in nutrients at their peak and avoid having to use any additives or shelf-stabiltizers. Simply thaw, heat and sip bone broth on its own or use in place of liquid in almost any recipe. Use bone broth in place of water when making rice or other grains, add in your slow cooker or Instant Pot, or blend it into smoothies for an extra boost of protein and 100% natural collagen.
