How To Cook Ora King Salmon
Ora King Salmon is an ultra-premium fish — sometimes referred to as the wagyu of the seafood world. Use this guide to see the best ways to prepare both the Full Side Fillet and 8.5 Ounce Portion.
Ingredients
- Ora King Salmon (Full Side Fillet or 8.5 Ounce Portion)
Instructions
- Full Side Fillet:
- To Thaw: Place your Ora King Salmon full side fillet in the refrigerator the night before you plan to cook it, allowing the fillet to thaw for 8-10 hours.
- To Bake: After thawing, let your Ora King Salmon full side fillet rest on the counter for 15-30 minutes in the packaging, allowing the fillet to mostly come to room temperature which promotes even cooking.
- Take your fillet out of the packaging and blot the salmon dry on all sides with a paper towel.
- While the salmon fillet rests, preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
- Lay a layer of foil on your baking sheet, and place the salmon fillet on the sheet, skin side down. Lightly drizzle olive oil on the fillet, use a brush or your fingers to spread the olive oil, covering the entire fillet.
- Sprinkle your desired seasonings (to keep it simple, use kosher salt, garlic powder, and fresh ground black pepper).
- Bake your salmon at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees F(per USDA recommendations), the salmon will continue to cook after removing it from the oven. Salmon should cook about 8 minutes for every inch of thickness. Many restaurants serve a less cooked “medium” salmon with an internal temperature of 130-135 degrees F, its a matter of personal preference. The key is to not overcook and dry out your salmon. If you do not have a thermometer, you can check your salmon cooking progress by placing a fork or knife in the salmon and twisting, the fish should flake with ease and be opaque in color.
- Once your salmon is done cooking, squeeze a few lemon wedges over the fish and sprinkle with any garnish or fresh herbs you desire. Serve and enjoy!
- 8.5 Ounce Portion
- To Thaw: Place your 8.5 ounce salmon portion in the refrigerator the night before you plan to cook it, allowing the fish to thaw for 8-10 hours.
- To Pan-sear: Set your Ora King Salmon portion out for 5-10 minutes, allowing the portion to come to room temperature which promotes even cooking.
- Take your portion out of the packaging and blot the salmon dry on all sides with a paper towel.
- Heat up your searing pan to medium-high heat. Also pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees. While your pan heats, lightly season both sides of your portion with salt and pepper, season the skin side a little extra if you wish.
- Add a tablespoon of butter to the pan and let it melt, then add your portion skin side down. Let the portion cook skin side down for 1-2 minutes (or longer if you like the skin extra crispy).
- While the portion cooks, grate some zest of lemon over your portion. Flip the portion over and allow to cook for another 1-2 minutes. If your pan is cast-iron and oven safe, place the pan directly into the oven and bake 4-5minutes. If your pan is not oven safe, transfer the portion to a baking sheet and place in the oven for 4-5 minutes.
- Note: If you wish to only cook in the pan, sear your salmon portion for 3-4 minutes on each side.
- After your cook time is finished, take the portion out, squeeze 1 lemon wedge over your fish, and serve.
- To Bake: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place portion on an oven safe baking sheet, and bake for 10-12 minutes or until you reach your desired internal temperature.
