Currywurst is one of the most popular and well-known German street foods, a great dish enjoyed on the go or even late at night paired with a beer or two. Try this recipe for our take on this Oktoberfest-inspired classic.

Method

Directions

  1. 1
Thaw your bratwursts or sausages fully.
  2. 2
Add ketchup and dijon mustard into a saucepan on low heat, just enough to warm it up.
  3. 3
Once the sauce is warmed, add in dry spices and mix well.
  4. 4
Add in the worcestershire, beef broth, and 2 tablespoons of water. If you want it a little runnier, add in an additional tablespoon of water. Let simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
  5. 5
Pan fry your sausages or bratwursts until cooked through. To do so, heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Remove thawed sausages from packaging then place in a hot pan and cook, undisturbed, for 2 minutes. Rotate sausages and continue to cook 2 minutes per side until evenly browned. Add a splash of water to the hot pan to steam the sausages. Remove from heat and let rest for 2 minutes.
  6. 6
Once your bratwursts or sausages are cooked, top them with the currywurst sauce and serve with a side of pretzels or french fries. Any leftover sauce will stay fresh in the fridge for a few days.
