Ground bison is a great alternative to ground beef and is very easy to cook. Just brown it in a pan over medium-high heat until it's cooked through, about 8 minutes. You can also add some spices to give it some flavor. One simple way to elevate ground bison is to mix it with some cooked rice and vegetables. This makes a great, healthy meal that's easy to prepare. Quality cooking starts with quality ingredients, and that's what Crowd Cow is all about. We bring the best of the best directly to your door, so you can cook up something amazing.

Chef's Serving Suggestions
Ground Bison is a great way to get your protein fix, and it's also a very versatile meat. You can prepare it in a variety of ways, and it goes well with a variety of toppings and seasonings. One of my favorite recipes is a simple bison burger. I just season the ground bison with salt and pepper, then grill it up. I like to serve it with some cheese, bacon, and avocado on a bun. It's a great, easy meal that's both healthy and delicious.

Naturally tender, rich in flavor, with a hint of sweetness, Durham Ranch Bison offers more protein, vitamins and minerals with fewer calories, less cholesterol and less fat – making it both a healthy and delicious choice to add to your diet.

Nature’s Perfect Protein

Durham Ranch is known for its use of holistic management practices, and strongly believes that good animal and land husbandry are not just the right thing to do but make for a better end product. Their Bison spend the majority of their life grazing on prairie grasses in their native landscape, and are finished on a free-choice grain/hay mixture to ensure consistent, top-quality meat year-round. Bison tastes very similar to beef with just a hint of sweetness and richer flavor profile and has a naturally tender texture. Nutritionally, it offers more protein, vitamins and minerals with fewer calories, less cholesterol and less fat — making it both a healthy and delicious choice to add to your diet.

A Slow & Quiet Life

Durham Ranch’s herds originate from Yellowstone National Park and live a slow and quiet life on a sprawling 55,000 acres in Wright, WY. Their herds are handled as little as possible due to the breed’s independent nature, and develop naturally on pasture without the use of growth hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. Bison also help cultivate the land naturally: their split hooves break up the soil as they roam and their diet of mostly broadleaf plants means they naturally fertilize the land through their waste. These facts, along with other conscientious husbandry practices, help to maintain the vitality of the meat.

Family-Owned and Operated

Durham Ranch is a third-generation family-owned business founded by their patriarch, Armando Flocchini Sr, who bought the ranch in 1965 after successfully running Durham Meat Company in San Francisco working as a butcher. At the time, raising Bison was a niche market, but Armando’s entrepreneurial spirit led him on the right path. Today, the same ranch is run by the Flocchini family and remains one the largest bison operations in North America. As members of the National Bison Association, Durham Ranch continues to advocate for good animal and land husbandry as well as educate consumers about this special animal to ensure that their family and other ranchers can enjoy this way of life for generations to come.
